My Family History
I have been interested in genealogy since I was about ten years old when I first saw the family trees my grandparents had drawn, although I never seriously started looking further back until I got a computer and had access to the Internet.
Daucourt
My great grandfather, Andre, came to England in about 1909 (top right photo in header). He was born in Paris, and lived in Buenos Aires for a short time when he was very young, but apart from that I know virtually nothing about his life before he came to England.
Steers
My paternal grandmother's side of the tree from Thanet, Kent. I am also interested in the Fright surname (my grandmother's mother's family) as this seems to be a fairly rare name - almost half of all the Frights in the UK today (less than 200 adults) live in Kent.
Kilpin
I can trace the Kilpins (my mother's family) back to the 1500s, but I'm not sure how accurate it is. This is a fairly rare surname in the UK and seems to originate from Buckinghamshire and/or Northamptonshire. My ancestors came from Stoke Goldington and Hanslope. I have looked at both the 1881 census and the Electoral Register and I seem to be related to over a third of the Kilpins listed in the latter and over half of those in the 1881 census! Even today, most of the Kilpins live along a line from Lincolnshire to London.
The only genetic 'claim-to-fame' I am aware of is to Herbert Kilpin (b.1870) - who co-founded AC Milan Football Club, along with two other Englishmen, and played for the club on several occasions. His great grandfather was William Kilpin (b.1769) who was also my 5g grandfather!
Hermon and Miles
My maternal grandmother's family came from East Lockinge and Ardington near Wantage . My grandmother's parents each had over ten siblings (bottom left photo in header) so I'm hoping there will be some people out there who know more about these families than I currently do!
